Pillar of Sugar

Acrylic and oil pastel on canvas

2026

Pillar of Sugar is a series made for my senior art thesis at Colorado College. It consists of a series of painted photographic stills of myself in childhood that selectively renders the fragments of life that are recalled most in memory. Pillar of Sugar deliberately depicts imperfect compositions akin to amateur home videos–with large fields of negative space and inadvertently cropped elements–to challenge overly poised recollections of the past.

Pillar of Sugar was displayed in Pulling Threads: Class of 2026 Senior Art Thesis Show at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center.
